• Note that occasionally the FHIM will contain what appear to be circular references, for example, a Biological Entity can be a Patient (asPatient), which points to Animal and Person (subject). When implementing the FHIM, one of these paths would be deleted based on the use case. The FHIM shows that both pathways are potentially possible, but implementations will use different mechanisms to handle this.
