This class represents information about a Person while in the Role of a past member of the United States military. This information is needed because Veterans are eligible to receive certain benefits, and because Veterans are the target of programs designed to assist with common problems incurred by the Veteran population. For example, homelessness is prevalent among Veterans and there are programs designed to assist homeless Veterans. These programs require some minimal amount of information about a person's Veteran status (e.g., whether they were honorably or dishonorably discharged) for statistical and reporting purposes.
